In the middle of the night last night, I was awoken from my sleep by a strange sound. Emerging from the haze of dreamland, I could make out the rhythmic beat of drums in the distance.

Yesterday was too big of a day for me. This morning I awoke later than usual feeling very groggy. Hiking late into the night is not for me! Eventually, I got myself up and out of my tent so I could start my day.

I woke up after yesterday’s shower to a beautiful misty morning. The sun peeked over the mountain ridge and cast a yellow glow over the grassy area. My first task of the morning was to tackle the steep, rocky climb to Pinwheels Vista.

This morning was a quiet one. I took my time getting my things together and eating breakfast. It was an overcast day, making the air a bit cooler than it had been. I was grateful for the cloud cover as I headed out onto the trail.

I woke up today and something was different. I wasn’t on trail! I didn’t feel too refreshed because I had gone to bed late (that’s what happens when you hang out with cousins), but I was happy to have spent so much quality time with family.

Town day! I had a short day today because I planned to meet my aunt at Delaware Water Gap and spend quality time with family in NJ. The plan was to meet them at 9:30, so I woke up early and started hiking just before 7 am.

When I got out of my tent this morning, everyone was gone. I got a late start due to my late arrival to camp last night, but today wasn’t going to be too difficult.

Day 112 on the AT – The Ascent Out Of Lehigh Gap

The thing about the AT is that clothes rarely get dry once they’re soaking wet. It takes a day of high temperatures and direct sunlight, so hanging wet clothes overnight doesn’t get the job done.
