Last night was very eventful and we didn’t get much sleep. Around 3 am we heard something large stomping around the campsite.

It’s a beautiful morning today. Last night, I got out of my tent for a nighttime pee and, wow, the full moon was so bright!

Back on trail! We started the day with a good warm up climb (1,000 feet of gain) right at the height of the heat of the day.

Another slackpack day. The weatherman called for more heat today, so we decided to take it easy and slack. Driving up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the views were magnetizing.

Zero day! Today was a special zero day. My grandmother and a relative drove over to have lunch with me. Unfortunately, Janitor couldn’t make it because he had meetings all day, but we still had a great time.

We have a zero day tomorrow, so we’re slackpacking today. We woke up early to beat the heat and got on trail close to 8 am.

It’s town day today! At the shelter this morning, I met a section hiker and we chatted over breakfast. I wasn’t in a rush this morning, so I enjoyed the company and conversation.

Day 73 Start: Trout Creek End: Campbell Shelter Miles Hiked: 18.2 Miles on AT: 715.1 I woke up and started hiking around 7:45 am today. I’ve got a date! Janitor didn’t want to miss one of the biggest oak trees on the AT, so he came out to meet me on trail to hike to see it.

Back on trail! Janitor wasn’t feeling up to joining me for this section, so it’s solo hiking time for this leg. Today was a short day, so I took it pretty easy. The first stop was a mere 0.2 miles from where I started for the day.
